I figured out I had to wait because of the comments, maybe you can add clarification in the desc ? I immediately started pressing space, which meant the baby kept sleeping. I also didn't realize I could play it in the browser, and I thought after I exited the game the sounds would start. To my terror, it kept playing (my computer is currently muted) and they were reverbing against each other while I had the .exe file open. It's even playing as I type here....
I also thought that there was something wrong with my computer when I couldn't leave the start scene and the crying also jumped scared me lol. Definitely very unexpected from what I thought it was going to be, but I think it's really funny. I didn't see the bug about the infinite crying so I was definitely panicking, but it would be funny if you kept it as some sort of easter egg haha.
The baby concept is really cool and reminds me of "Who's Your Daddy." Although it's a bug, I think the infinite crying still adds to the panic-y aspect of caring for the baby. I was in the start scene for a while and the crying started to play and jumpscared me. T^T
As with many others, I was unable to start the game but I will admit I had initially thought I was supposed to be press space immediately so I had constantly restarted the game, not realizing there was actually a time prompt that will appear. Based on the one dialogue text that appears in this game, it is clear that you were trying to go for something humorous and I did find the statement of a baby being pissed to be hilarious. I would love to see this game in its proper state once you manage to fix those issues as it does seem promising.
Unfortunately, the game didn't run for me either :( I think this is a really cool concept though, and the bug that you mentioned where the baby cries infinitely seems pretty realistic. Sometimes it just seems like a baby will cry forever and it seams like there is nothing you can do to help.
The game didn't run for me either, but I remember seeing your post and the baby controller, and I think there's a way to really lean into the satire / farce of the situation. Based on the screenshots, I'd imagine this is supposed to be more comedic and lighthearted than a serious simulation. If that's the case, definitely lean more into the absurdity within the game's presentation (I mean, the controller is literally a baby).
Yeah, game didn’t want to run, but this game feels a lot like the babysitter mama games on the Wii, especially with the baby controller you mentioned (same one?) I’d definitely like to see this played with the alternate controller, maybe iterating to more mechanics like feeding or changing the baby, making more tasks to complete.
Like the comments below, I don’t know why but I just couldn’t start the game, maybe there is something wrong with the files you upload on itch.io? But I really like the ideas of this game according to the description.
I’m excited to see what the game is like once it’s finished! Similarly to everyone else, wasn’t able to play it, but the concept is really fun. You could put the default or starting string to “sleeping” and replace it with the other ones later. It definitely gives me the feel of taking care of a baby and being stressed though!
I wasn't able to play the game to its fullest extent due to a bug in the beginning I think. However I think that the break in the game could actually be really interesting to implement and explore if you were planning to expand on the game. The repeating text adds to the sense of the baby urgently needing to be cared for while the player can't do anything to console it. It was be intriguing to see this unsettling use of text within a version of the game you could interact with!
I wasn't able to get the game to function for my playthrough, but the game reminds me of another project made a year ago from the CDM 176 class. It was similarly a "text-based" game where the player had to actively make sure the paint dried on the wall and reacted to whatever would occur with the text.
While the game doesn’t function entirely as intended, the concept it presents where you have to take care of a baby that will react in ways you cannot predict feels realistic. It reminds me a bit of A Day in the Life (https://bricksy.itch.io/a-day-in-the-life) in the way it tries to simulate a real scenario you might find yourself in.
this reminds me of a game made by an alumni GDAC member which was about being given the responsibility of watching paint dry and having time-based challenges and the goal was to last as long as possible, both have this kind of text-based meta-gameplay
I like the game idea even though it broke for me. I think it shows the spontaneous nature of taking care of a baby. It’ll start crying out of nowhere and needs constant attention. I assume the game was supposed to make the baby stop crying when you pat it but maybe adding other features can improve the baby care nature of the game.
The setting is great, but I am a bit confused about how to continue to the next scene. And I suggest that a kid’s crying sound should be added to add the tension of the game.
With having the arial/sans serif white text on black background gives the impression makes it feel like everything will be normal and nice, making the string repeat jumpscare kinda work. Wonder if there’s a way to push this further with including visual elements
Even if the game might have a glitch, having the phrase “pissed” repeat constantly while the baby is crying is a very unnerving feeling and sound in the best way possible, I was half expecting it to be a horror experience after that!
this game needs the player to press space while the baby is crying. However, maybe there is a technical problem here and I can't go into the next scene.
